July 4th, Freedom & the Nonprofit Grind:Rest, Reset, and Recharge

Hey there,If you’re reading this, I want you to pause for a second—just breathe. You’ve been holding it all together—juggling your nonprofit, your purpose, your people, your passion. And now it’s the July 4th weekend, and I want to say something to you from one nonprofit leader to another:

You deserve to rest.

I know, this holiday is supposed to be about freedom and independence. But what does that really mean for us—Black women founders, nonprofit visionaries, community builders?

For us, freedom looks like boundaries. It looks like rest.It looks like not feeling guilty for unplugging from the nonprofit grind for a day or two so we can come back refreshed and reignited.

This Weekend, Give Yourself Permission

1. Reflect on your “why.”

What called you to serve? What dream whispered to you before the mission statement even had words?Go back to that. Write it down. Sit with it.

2. Unplug—fully.

Close the laptop. Turn off notifications. Trust me, your nonprofit won’t fall apart. You can't pour from an empty cup, and burnout doesn't serve your mission.

3. Re-enter with intention.

What’s one thing you really want to focus on next week? Not the hundred things on your list—but one next aligned step. That’s how we create momentum that lasts.
