The Role of the Nonprofit Board

There are two tenets that are foundation to the nonprofit organization...Mission and Board. A couple of months ago I asked on LinkedIn, if the current system of Board is an effective means to govern the organization. The consensus seem to be that there is a need for more Board Training. However, ask a Director about the effectiveness of their Board and pleas for the Fifth abounds?Is there a better way to govern our Nonprofit Organizations? If there is...why don't we take the time to find a solution? What do you think? I am really interested in this topic.
